A Queer Experience by Louis Painter
A Queer Experience
Starting with a love of movies and the “cinematic” aspect of photography, I wanted to create a series for myself focusing on the experience of loneliness as a queer person.
Growing up as queer person in the early 2010’s came with the feelings of being different, discrimination and a heavy lack of media representation.
I wanted this project to showcase real queer people as the main character. Channeling the loneliness felt when I and plenty other queer people felt when they were younger. I wanted these images to look like shots from a movie without the stereotypes that necessarily come with queerness in cinema while keeping the stylised aspect of film, taking all of those feelings of alienation and normalising them through my photography.
